Asbury Park Convention Hall is a 3,600-seat indoor exhibition center located on the boardwalk and on the beach in Asbury Park, New Jersey. It was built between 1928 and 1930 and is used for sports, concerts and other special events.
Listed in the National Register of Historic Places, The Convention Hall has been providing entertainment at the Jersey Shore since the 1930's. Meetings, sporting events, concerts, and other gatherings take place throughout the year, with many events during the summer months.
The 1950's, 60's, and 70's brought Rock and Roll and Hard Rock acts starting with Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers all the way to Black Sabbath, the Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Janis Joplin, the Beach Boys, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and The Who.
Continuing on through the years, the 80's and 90's brought the Goo Goo Dolls, and Blue Oyster Cult, and of course towards the end of the 90's, Bruce Springsteen adopted the Hall as his tour rehearsal place. During those early years, fans could hang around the Convention Hall to catch a preview or rehersal show. Eventually, the Convention Hall added a "Greetings From Asbury Park" sign to the side of the building a nod to Bruce's debut album.
Convention Hall in Asbury Park is not just a piece of real estate. It is a landmark that symbolizes the Jersey Shore, not just for Garden State residents but for people throughout the country and, indeed, around the world.
