Description
Painted Ladies in a Row | Fine Art photograph by Colleen Kammerer ~
Cape May, New Jersey is know for its lovely Victorian homes. It has one of the largest collections of Victorian homes in the United States. The town of Cape May has been designated a historic landmark, due to its amazing Victorian architecture. Cape May is considered by some to be America's first summer resort. The Victorian homes were mostly built after a terrible fire which destroyed much of the downtown area in 1878. Homes are brightly painted with gingerbread trimmings and are referred to as Painted Ladies. Many are now serving as bed-and-breakfasts.
