About the Image:
On the Ocean Grove side of the Asbury Boardwalk stands the remains of the old North End Hotel. The hotel, opened in 1911, was once Ocean Grove's largest and grandest - it was damaged by fire and subsequently demolished in 1980. This is what remains of the magnificent 255 room Victorian Hotel, which boasted elevators, fifty suites with private baths, a telephone in every room, a swimming pool, four bowling alleys, a dining room, Merry-Go-Round, a motion picture hall, a shooting gallery, saltwater pool, and even Skee-Ball!!
In 1975, Ocean Grove was designated a State and National Historic District as a 19th century planned urban community. It has the greatest extent of Victorian and early-20th century architecture in the United States!
Fast forward to April 13, 2019, and sadly this beautiful building which had been restored to a multi business pavilion has met its fate once again by fire. A fire destroyed the pavilion on the north end of the Ocean Grove boardwalk. The five-alarm fire gutted the North End Pavilion in Ocean Grove, destroying a local landmark that took nearly three years to recover after Hurricane Sandy.
