Close up of a Blue Eyed Susan, also known as Passion Flower.
The Passion Flower is symbolic of the crown of thorns and nails. The stamen, in the middle of the flower, is divided into three; thus the three nails. The circular purple formation surrounding the stamen is the crown of thorns. Purple is the color used during the Lenten season and signifies the passion of Christ.
I had never seen, or heard of a Blue Eyed Susan/ Passion Flower... what a beautiful flower!! This passion flower bears large, rich-purple flowers accented with a ruffled corona and bright-yellow stamens. The flowers have a sweet fragrance and are over four inches wide. It blooms all year long in colors of: Magenta (Pink-Purple), Blue-Violet, Violet/Lavender, and Purple. This fragrant flower is attractive to bees, butterflies and birds.
