Kykuit was built in 1913 for American businessman and philanthropist John D. Rockefeller. It has been home to four generations of the Rockefeller family. After John D. Rockefeller, Kykuit was home to his son, philanthropist John D. Rockefeller Jr., and grandson, Nelson A. Rockefeller, four-time governor of New York and vice president under President Gerald Ford.
Designed by Architect Williams Welles Bosworth. Kykuit is a beautiful example of the Beaux Arts house and elaborate gardens in the Italian style. The home features stunning interior design by Ogden Codman, as well as fine collections of Chinese and European ceramics, furnishings, and galleries of 20th century art.
The Rockefeller family are known for their contributions to philanthropy, conservation, business, government, and the arts.
