Vintage Cake Topper gets a dreamy look with textures and soft focus lens.
The history of the wedding cake topper dates back to the late 19th century, and though its exact date of origin is unknown, most historians agree that wedding cake toppers were first seen during the 1890s. Their popularity continued to grow throughout the turn of the century. In 1927, popular mail order catalogs dedicated whole pages to these decorations and by the 1950s, wedding toppers were a mainstream tradition that served as a representation of the unity of the couple.
The wedding cake topper became a tradition in United States weddings. Today, these decorative figurines are often part of the couple's decorative theme or wedding reception style.
Traditional wedding cake toppers depict the couple in formal attire and are often the only part of the cake which can be kept over the years,(this one is over 30 years old!!) apart from photographs of it.
While traditionally the bride and groom were in formal attire, with the bride in a long white wedding dress, complete with veil, and the groom in black morning dress, today there are many more designs available. Cake toppers are a very personal statement, there are specific ones for every style and theme.Nowadays they topper can even reflect the couple hobbies.Modern wedding cakes will often feature toppers that are humorous in their style. These toppers are designed to portray the personalities, hobbies, or lifestyles of the bride and groom. Some may jokingly feature the groom with a ball and chain around his ankle, while others may use a fishing theme to show the bride reeling in her husband on a pole. Gone are the days when a "cookie cutter style" bride and groom such as this one was used.
