Great capture, Colleen. I am reminded as a look at this about a recent report that one of Edison's original light bulbs has been burning continuously since 1904 at a fire hall. I think it is in Ohio.

Thank you Charles for commenting -- that's pretty amazing!

Artist's Description

Vintage Light Bulbs - Original Fine Art Photograph by Colleen Kammerer ~

An example of American inventor Thomas Edison's Filament lamp. It had a single loop of carbon which glowed when a current flowed through it. The glass bulb contained a partial vacuum; there was so little oxygen in the bulb that the filament could get very hot without catching fire.

Interesting Fact: The first incandescent lamp (light bulb) was made by Thomas A. Edison in Menlo Park in 1879.
