Description
Clapboard and Cedar Shake - Original Fine Art Photography by Colleen Kammerer ~
Two unique style American homes, Clapboard and Cedar Shake, show contrast in texture and design.
The word clapboard is derived from the Dutch word "klappen," which means to split. A clapboard house has wooden siding mounted horizontally. On a clapboard house, one clapboard overlaps the one below it, which is why one edge is thicker than the opposite one.
Cedar Shake has a wonderful rustic feel and is a popular style for New England homes. In North America shakes are typically made from California redwood and Western Red Cedar.
